Facts about bad breath...

An estimated 10% to 20% of adults have halitosis or chronic bad breath.

Approximately 90% of chronic bad breath is caused by sources from within the mouth.

Approximately 10% of chronic bad breath is caused by other health conditions.

The causes of oral halitosis are well documented in reputable dental journals. In fact, much research has been completed in this area from 1991 to the present.

The science behind bad breath treatment is also well documented.

Halitosis can be objectively measured by specific instruments.

The treatment of bad breath by a knowledgeable, trained dentist with proper equipment has been estimated to be 90% effective.

Traditional dental care (even excellent care) often does not effectively eliminate chronic halitosis.

Unfortunately many dentist are not very knowledgeable in the treatment of bad breath and most do not have the special equipment necessary to objectively measure bad breath and the progress of treatment.

Gum disease and tooth decay can both cause bad breath; however, chronic bad breath can be present even with healthy gums and no tooth decay.

Proper diagnosis and treatment requires that a dentist...

» Has proper equipment to measure and quantify halitosis

» Performs a comprehensive oral examination

» Is adequately trained in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease
